Job Description 

We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional who will use data to help Ringmaster make the best data-driven decisions and gain competitive advantage through the development and implementation of best in breed products. This role will be part of a larger cross-functional team and will work to implement solutions that may leverage document intelligence solutions, recommendation systems, forecasting, or reinforcement learning.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Coordinates with Data Engineers to build data environments providing data required by Data Analysts, Product Owners, Software Developers and additional teammates. 
    • Enhancing data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems 
      • Data mining or extracting usable data from valuable data sources 
    • Carrying out the preprocessing of structured and unstructured data 
      • Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to be used for analysis. 
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc. 
    • Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms 
    • Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers 
  • Formulates and leads guided, multifaceted analytic studies against large volumes of data. 
    • Interprets and analyzes data using exploratory mathematic and statistical techniques based on the scientific method. 
    • Coordinates research and analytic activities utilizing various data points (unstructured and structured) and employ programming to clean, massage, and organize the data. 
    • Experiments against data points, provide information based on experiment results and provide previously undiscovered solutions to command data challenges. 
  • Develops methodology and processes for prioritization and scheduling of projects. 
  • Analyzes problems and determines root causes. 
  • Defines company data assets (data models), spark, sparkSQL, and hiveSQL jobs to populate data models. 
  • Works closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop strategy for long term data platform architecture. 

 

Skills & Basic Qualifications 

  • 5-7 years’ experience as a working Data Scientist 
  • Master’s degree in operations research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields 
  • Strong Software Engineering Background 
  • Deep Linux/Unix administration skills/experience. 
  • Hands-on experience with OCR, NLP, data ETL technologies and automated data pipelines. 
  • Programming Skills 
    • Knowledge of statistical programming languages like R, Python 
    • Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is an added advantage. 
  • Proficiency in Database Query Languages  
    • Examples include SQL, Hive, Pig 
  • Experience with NoSQL databases 
    • MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase  
  • Statistics 
    • Good applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc.  
  • Machine Learning 
    • Solid knowledge of machine learning methods like k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests.  
  • Strong Math Skills (Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra) 
    • Understanding the fundamentals of Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra is important as they form the basis of a lot of predictive performance or algorithm optimization techniques.  
  • Data Wrangling 
    • Proficiency in handling imperfections in data is an important aspect of a data scientist job description.  
  • Data Visualization 
    • Experience utilizing visualization tools to take advantage of the growing volume of available information 
    • Familiarity with tools like PowerBi, matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js., Tableau that help to visually encode data 
  • Problem-solving aptitude 
  • Analytical mind and great business sense 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills…especially as a team member. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Python  
  • SQL 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Insurance or healthcare industry experience. 
  • Experience with document intelligence technologies. 
  • Certification in Agile programming or Scrum Master speaking to the right candidate’s knowledge of software development processes, methodologies, and project management  
  • Understanding of the best security practices and automating security testing and updating in the CI/CD pipelines 
  • Health care data,  Medical Claims, Pharmacy claims, or other similar experience
